Blank Sheet
For the future

... offers legal essays on emerging technologies – before they
are hyped.
Nothing is less interesting than a legal analysis of a hype technology. Artificial intelligence, big data and blockchain, to name just a few, would be extremely interesting topics. But they have already been legally examined so often that this mesh of doctrines hardly leaves any room for creativity. Therefore, the Sheets take a different approach: they analyze new technologies – before they are hyped.
However, these new technologies are often still at the beginning of their development phase, so that they have only been developed in principle and their more precise design will be revealed in the further course of development. The Sheets cannot and do not want to offer a well-founded analysis of an immature technology. Rather, they are limited to the fundamental questions raised by a new technology, which – should there be any hype at all – will probably only gain greater legal significance in the future.
The fact that the course of the future is still open also gives the website “Blank Sheet“ its name. Like a white Sheet, the future is still unwritten, but its forms are sketched and refined every day until the Sheet crumbles into a pile of ashes – or produces a colorful masterpiece.
This is a Sheet
Sheets are essays in which technological innovations are legally assessed. However, because thoughts are free, the Sheets should be too: While the legal analysis of technologies is primarily addressed in the Sheets, other topics may be discussed as well. Currently, all Sheets are written in German.
